American Legion to host Constitutional Speech Competition – WVVA

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (WVVA) – American Legion is holding a scholarship contest for high school students in seven counties.
American Legion is the largest veteran organization in the U.S., advocating for those who served in the armed forces and their families.
The scholarship competition is a constitutional speech contest, testing students on their public speaking skills.
The Bluefield chapter of American Legion Post 9 announced their oratorical scholarship contest, where winners can get up to twenty-five thousand dollars for their college tuition.
Paul Dorsey, veteran and the adjutant for Post 9, stressed how the contest promotes public speaking skills and communication.
“To get back to communicating – people talking with people about important things. Concrete things. And it’s just something that is totally necessary. That’s the way I look at that,” said Dorsey.
The contest will take place at the herb sims center in Bluefield on January 24th of next year. Students interested in the contest can contact Dorsey or go to the Post 9 location.
