American Water (AWK), the largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the United States, has announced the recipients of the 2025 James V. LaFrankie Scholarship Awards. These scholarships have been granted to 10 students who are children of full-time employees at American Water, recognizing their academic excellence and interest in the water industry.
The scholarships, worth $1,000 each and renewable for up to three years, celebrate the achievements of these students and support their educational pursuits in fields related to water industry occupations. This initiative underscores American Water’s commitment to investing in the future leaders within the water sector.
Lori Sutton, SVP and Chief Human Resources Officer of American Water, expressed her pride in supporting the academic dreams of the employees’ families and emphasized the company’s value in fostering the growth of future innovators and leaders.
Since its inception in 1991, the scholarship program honors former American Water president James V. LaFrankie, who emphasized the importance of education throughout his successful 44-year career with the company. This year’s awardees were selected from a pool of 93 applicants based on their exemplary academic records, extracurricular involvements, and teacher recommendations.
Congratulations to the recipients and their families, as this program continues to contribute positively to educational growth and community support, honoring James V. LaFrankie’s legacy of valuing education and community service.
