ANDOVER — Philip Meng, a rising senior at Phillips Academy, has been awarded a $25,000 scholarship as part of the 2025 Davidson Fellows program, one of the nation’s top honors for students 18 and under.
Meng was recognized for co-developing EnDive (English Diversity), a tool designed to measure how artificial intelligence systems handle underrepresented English dialects. The benchmark evaluates whether large language models fairly process five different dialects, with the goal of preventing bias in areas such as education, hiring, and healthcare.
By highlighting gaps in how AI systems interpret language, EnDive provides researchers and developers with a framework for building more equitable and dialect-aware technology.
“It is truly an honor to be selected as a Davidson Fellow,” Meng said in a statement. “This recognition not only validates the hard work and passion I have poured into my project, but also welcomes me into a community of brilliant, innovation-driven individuals dedicated to making a positive impact on society.”
Meng is one of 21 students nationwide to receive a Davidson Fellows Scholarship this year. The program, which marks its 25th anniversary in 2025, is awarding a record $825,000 in scholarships.
Since its launch in 2001, the Davidson Fellows Scholarship has provided more than $10.7 million to 469 students who have completed significant projects with the potential to benefit society. The program is run by the Davidson Institute, a Nevada-based nonprofit that supports profoundly gifted youth.
