Local is everything
A light morning rain reduced the number of entries in the third Wakefield High School Car Show, but some 25 classics were still on site in the school’s parking lot for the Saturday (April 26) event.
A number of the entries were graduates of Wakefield, with a number of current students on hand observing the various cars and trucks.
“It’s always fun to see former Wakefield students and their friends come back for this show,” event organizer Bob Strauss told ARLnow.
The show served as a fundraiser for Wakefield’s senior class with upwards of more than $1,300 collected. The past two shows had many more cars on site, but there was no rain for either of those. Owners of classic cars do not like to drive their vehicles in rainy or wet weather.
“The number [of entries] was fairly impressive for a rainy day,” said co-organizer Debbie Strauss, the wife of Bob Strauss.
Multiple food trucks were on hand for the show.
Trophies were awarded in various categories for the old and new vehicles entered, like for the best engine, best paint and best interior. The best in show went to the Arlington Career Center and its electric car.
“All in all, it was a great neighborhood event, and we look forward to doing it again in the fall,” Debbie Strauss said.
The fourth Wakefield Car Show will likely be held in October, in the Wakefield parking lot like the first three.
“We are looking forward to that,” Debbie Strauss said.
