Applications are Open: Erasmus Mundus International Scholarships for Joint Master Programme in Groundwater and Global Change 2026/2028 – Global South Opportunities

The Joint Master Programme in Groundwater and Global Change – Impacts and Adaptation (GroundwatCH) is an internationally oriented graduate program that equips students with advanced knowledge and skills in groundwater management, climate change, and environmental adaptation. The program is designed to foster both intellectual and personal growth, immersing participants in a multicultural academic environment that emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration.
GroundwatCH prepares graduates to address the complex challenges posed by global changes affecting water resources. Through a combination of classroom instruction, fieldwork, and research, students learn to integrate hydrological, geological, and engineering perspectives in order to develop sustainable solutions to water-related issues worldwide.
The GroundwatCH program spans two years, comprising four semesters across three leading European universities, followed by a research thesis. Students benefit from exposure to diverse academic traditions, state-of-the-art research facilities, and international professional networks.
The 2026–2028 edition of GroundwatCH will commence in September 2026. Applications open on 1 October 2025, including submissions for Erasmus Mundus Scholarships.
The program welcomes candidates with a strong academic background in environmental engineering, hydrology, geosciences, or related fields. Admission decisions are based on academic performance, motivation, and potential to contribute to the program’s interdisciplinary and international community.
GroundwatCH emphasizes experiential learning through both fieldwork and laboratory exercises. Students have the opportunity to participate in international excursions, including studies of urban water systems, hydrological networks, and climate adaptation projects. These experiences provide hands-on knowledge and enhance understanding of real-world water management challenges.
The program also fosters intercultural exchange, exposing students to diverse perspectives and approaches. By working alongside peers from around the world, participants develop communication, teamwork, and leadership skills essential for careers in global water management.
Graduates of GroundwatCH are equipped to pursue careers in water management, environmental consulting, research institutions, government agencies, and international organizations. The program’s combination of academic rigor, field-based experience, and professional networking prepares students to become leaders in addressing water scarcity, climate change adaptation, and sustainable groundwater management.
Alumni often contribute to policy-making, technical innovation, and research initiatives across multiple sectors. Their expertise in integrating science, engineering, and policy enables them to tackle some of the most pressing environmental challenges of the 21st century.
The program is offered through a collaboration of three prominent European universities:
This partnership ensures access to a broad spectrum of academic resources, faculty expertise, and international networks, enriching the student experience and expanding professional opportunities.
