Housing NWT is accepting applications for their Memorial Scholarships between April 2 until May 31.
The Alfred Moses Memorial Scholarship and Tom William Memorial Scholarship are awarded to N.W.T. part-time and full-time post-secondary students who are enrolled in certificate, diploma, degree program or other “approved” training programs related to housing.
Each scholarship is valued at $1,000 per school year.
Jeanne Gard, who is Housing NWT’s manager of communications, True North FM that applications are due by 11:59pm MST on May 31.
All applications are due via the scholarship portal found on the Yellowknife Community Foundation website.
Housing NWT has 12 scholarships available each year, with two awarded in each Housing NWT district as well as two in Yellowknife.
Six scholarships in memory of Alfred Moese will be awarded to high school and mature students entering into post-secondary education. Six scholarships in memory of Tom Williams will be awarded to post-secondary students.
“In total, there will be 12 scholarships awarded annually, two in each Housing NWT district (Beaufort-Delta, Nahendeh, North Slave, Sahtu, South Slave) including two in Yellowknife,” Housing NWT said in a statement on their website.
Representatives from each Housing NWT district, on the Student Awards Committee, review the applications.
Gard explains that the review process will begin in June.
“Yellowknife Community Foundation staff and Student Awards Review Committee members conduct due diligence checks on all applications and undertake a review process,” explained Gard.
Applicants will begin hearing back by “mid to late July” said Gard,
“Every applicant will receive notification regardless of funding decision,” said Gard.
Gard said that the Yellowknife Community Foundation is handling the administration of the scholarships this year.
