PARKERSBURG — Applications are now being accepted for the annual Artsbridge Scholarships established by Maestro Luke Frazier, a Parkersburg South High School graduate.
Frazier, who established the American Pops Orchestra in 2015, approached Artsbridge in 2019 about an annual scholarship for graduating West Virginia high school seniors who are pursuing fine arts in college. The scholarships are also open to Washington County students.
The application and rubric are distributed to local high school guidance counselors, administrators and fine arts teachers and also are available on the Artsbridge website under the education tab, www.artsbridgeonline.org.
The scholarship, the Donna Campbell Award for Excellence, is named after Frazier’s grandmother, and offers $1,500 for the first semester of college. Two student scholarship winners, with each receiving $1,500, will be chosen this year.
In addition to the student scholarship, Frazier also established an award for an outstanding fine arts teacher, the Janet Frazier Award for Excellence, also named for Frazier’s grandmother, which will go to two fine arts teachers in a high school and in an elementary school.
Nominees for the award must be teaching arts, music or drama in the Artsbridge service area.
Both teachers will receive $1,000 for classroom supplies. Nomination applications, which can be made by parents, students, administrators and fellow teachers, are on the Artsbridge website under the education tab or by calling Artsbridge at 304-428-3988 and requesting a form to be emailed or mailed.
Completed applications can be emailed to director@artsbridgeonline.org with Scholarship Application or Award Nomination in the subject line or mailed to Artsbridge, 350 7th St., Parkersburg, WV 26101.
The deadline to apply is Feb. 28.
Scholarship opportunities are available to all students in Wood, Ritchie, Pleasants, Jackson, Roane, Doddridge, Tyler and Wirt counties in West Virginia and in Washington County.
