English and School Education is offering grants to UK higher education institutions (HEIs) of up to £15,000 per scholarship to study part time online over a period of two years for a master’s in English language teaching which includes an option to specialise in teacher development / teacher education. The online study course will start in September/October 2026 and will include a bespoke two-week study visit to the HEI.
The master’s course should include modules that enable the scholars to explore and gain a deeper understanding of English language teaching both generally and within the educational contexts in which they work. Themes are to include teacher development / teacher education, and may also include, for example, teaching in low resource contexts, the diverse needs of learners, use of accessible technologies, and multilingualism/plurilingualism. A key desired outcome of the scholarships is that the scholars will make a significant contribution to the development of English language teaching in their home countries.
A grant to cover ten scholars will be awarded to each of two UK HEIs – i.e. a total of twenty scholars – across the following countries: Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, Ghana, Kenya and Turkey. Each scholarship grant covers tuition and all associated fees, IELTS exam fee, return economy-class travel from home country to UK, accommodation for the two week visit period, visa and insurance / NHS surcharge costs, and two weeks’ stipend at the rate for 2026/27 stipulated by UKRI to cover costs of living, all of which the HEI will directly administer.
