Fremont High School graduate Spencer Divis, flanked by Pam Murphy and Rick Hollendieck at last year’s Fremont Area Community Foundation Scholarship Luncheon, received the Pat Murphy Track and Field Scholarship in 2024.
The Fremont Area Community Foundation (FACF) recently awarded area high school graduates more than $150,000 in scholarships.
The amount of funds — $150,781 — awarded was a record, according to a press release from FACF. In celebration of students’ achievements, the foundation’s Annual Scholarship Luncheon is set for Sunday, June 8.
Founded in 1980, the FACF connects donors, nonprofits and community leaders with the needs of the community, creating positive local impact. Over the life of the foundation so far, approximately $40 million has been distributed throughout Fremont and the greater Dodge County area in the form of scholarships and grants in five areas of interest including arts and culture, civic improvement, education, health and recreation, and social services.
This year saw 1,470 applications submitted for scholarships from 144 area students. Almost 130 area volunteer reviewers scored each application. According to the press release, scholarships are available in many different areas of study and most are available for students attending two- or four-year colleges or universities. Some of these scholarships focus on academic achievement or areas of study. Others recognize extracurricular activities or financial need.
“Through the incredible generosity of our donors, the Fremont Area Community Foundation is proud to support hundreds of area graduating seniors each year with scholarships. Our streamlined online application helps make the process simple and accessible for students and reviewers alike,” said Melissa Diers, executive director of the foundation. “Whether students are heading to a four-year university, community college, or trade program, scholarships help them focus on learning and worry less about finances.”
Students who received scholarships this year graduated from: Archbishop High School, Arlington High School, Cedar Bluffs High School, Fremont High School, Logan View High School, North Bend Central High School, Schuyler Central High School, Tekamah-Herman High School, and Yutan High School. FACF also administers scholarship funds for North Bend Central School which totaled $29,600 this spring.
