The Mississippi Trucking Association Foundation has awarded 40 scholarships for the 2025-2026 school year, including four to Lincoln County-area students.
Alvin Giddens and Jameson Smith, both of Brookhaven, Lily Lambert of Wesson, and Lydia Williams of Summit were among the students to receive the MTAF Scholarship, awarded to deserving students with ties to the trucking industry and who are enrolled in higher learning in the state of Mississippi. Smith received the R. Gene Holmes Endowment; Giddens was awarded the Vernon G. and Nancy Sawyer Endowment; and Lambert was awarded the G. Larry Kerr Endowment.
The program was created more than 35 years ago by the foundation, a charitable organization designed to receive contributions, memorial gifts and property to promote education projects related to the trucking industry, and the annual scholarships. Approximately 500 students have received the scholarship to-date, from MTAF and the following endowments — Mike McLarty, John Fayard Jr., H. Dean Cotton, G. Larry Kerr, R. Gene Holmes, Vernon G. and Nancy Sawyer, John D. Stomps, and W. Todd Bates.
