MARYVILLE, Mo. — With a focus on helping young men and women interested in the trades, the family of Bryan K. Arnold presented to two recipients this year’s Lt. Bryan K. Arnold Memorial Scholarship on May 1 at the Maryville R-II School District Office.
Northeast Nodaway senior Kenneth Schieber and Mound City senior Quentin Foote, both students at Northwest Technical School, are this year’s recipients of the scholarship.
Schieber is planning to study in the Diesel Ag Equipment Program at Southeast Community College in Milford, Nebraska.
Foote plans to study automotive at State Technical College of Missouri in Linn.

“It’s a real pleasure to present you with this to get you started on a good profession,” Keith Arnold told them, expressing his happiness to assist them in their career endeavors.
With tears in her eyes and while passing around a photo of Bryan, his widow, Tiffany, shared with the two scholarship recipients a little about her husband.
“He was a plumber here in town … and he was also a lieutenant in the fire department here. … There wasn’t anything that he couldn’t fix,” she said. “He worked on vehicles. There’s a Service Lube here in town and Bryan was there a lot. He was very passionate about the trades and he was always worried that kids weren’t gonna go into it. Because it’s necessary. I mean we need the trades, period. There’s not a robot that can do what you guys do.”

After the presentation, Tiffany told The Forum that all the scholarship recipients have been good, down-to-Earth kids.
“He was a good, down-to-Earth person,” she said of Bryan, noting that it means a lot to her and the family to be able to provide these scholarships.
“We need the trades badly,” Michelle Wickersham, Bryan’s sister, told the two young men.
The scholarship is funded through donations and from events held in memory of Arnold, such as the Eagles Poker Run, among others. Tiffany said the family has opened a bank account for the scholarship at Nodaway Valley Bank to accept donations in Bryan’s name.
