Art in Public Places (APP) is expanding its mission to support young leaders and artists in the Wiregrass with a new scholarship program for high school
seniors.
At its September board meeting, the APP Board of Directors approved $2,500 in scholarships to be awarded to two graduating seniors in
2026.
“Supporting young leaders is essential to building a strong future for the arts in the Wiregrass,” said Holly Meyers, executive director of Art in Public Places. “These scholarships reflect our commitment to not only providing opportunities for public art today, but also investing in the students who will carry the arts forward in the
future.”
One scholarship, valued at $1,000, will go to a senior currently serving on the APP Junior Board, which launched earlier this year. The Junior Board gives high school juniors and seniors opportunities to gain leadership experience in public art, event planning, and community engagement. The award is designed to honor the service, dedication and impact of a graduating board
member.
A second scholarship, valued at $1,500, will be awarded to a Wiregrass-area high school senior pursuing further study in art, museum studies, music or performance. APP leaders say this initiative reflects the organization’s goal of investing in the next generation of artists and creative leaders.

Applications for both scholarships will open in January 2026, with eligibility requirements and application details posted on APP’s
website.

Art in Public Places is a nonprofit organization that fosters a thriving arts ecosystem in the Wiregrass by enriching shared spaces with public and community-driven art experiences. Through installations, events and youth programs, APP aims to empower artists and inspire
connection.
