The trustees of the Austin-Bailey Health and Wellness Foundation have approved grants and scholarships totaling $197,400 to support health and wellness initiatives across Holmes, Stark, Tuscarawas and Wayne counties.
Twelve nonprofit organizations received grants, while scholarships were awarded to students pursuing health-related studies at nine institutions: Aultman College, Kent State University Stark, Kent State University Tuscarawas, Malone University, Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, Stark State College, University of Akron Wayne College, University of Mount Union and Walsh University.
Organizations receiving grants include:
Access Tusc, New Philadelphia — $20,000 for care coordination for low-income new and expectant mothers and babies.
Adaptive Sports Ohio, Canton — $15,000 to provide youth with disabilities wheelchair basketball equipment.
American Red Cross, Canton — $5,000 in support of local blood drives.
Ben Curtis Family Foundation, Kent — $3,000 to address food insecurity among children in the Alliance City School District.
Hartville Migrant Council, Hartville — $13,900 for free clinic services in behavioral health, dental care, vision care and counseling.
Kent State Stark, Canton — $4,600 to purchase eight VR headsets for its nursing program.
Lacy Pac Adaptive Movement Center, New Philadelphia — $15,000 to enable respite care for families of individuals with special needs.
Rittman Fire and Rescue, Rittman — $11,500 to purchase three cardiopulmonary resuscitation devices.
St. Thomas Aquinas School, Louisville — $2,000 for trauma training for school staff.
Stark Community Support Network, Canton — $18,000 to connect individuals facing chronic health issues, housing insecurity, trauma and poverty with essential services.
Stark State College Foundation, North Canton — $11,400 to buy a bariatric nursing manikin for training students to effectively assist obese patients.
Tuscarawas Clinic for the Working Uninsured, Dover — $10,000 for operational support.
University of Akron Foundation (Wayne College), Orrville — $25,000 for a physical assessment cart and a birthing bed.
The foundation holds two grant cycles each year and welcomes proposals from nonprofit organizations with health- and wellness-related projects. Applicants are encouraged to call the foundation office before submitting a request. The deadline for the next cycle is Nov. 18, 2025.
