LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – Two students enrolled in the Aviation Careers Institute were the recipients of Michigan State University Federal Credit Union’s (MSUFCU) “Dreams Take Flight” scholarship.
MSUFCU says the goal of the scholarship is to make flight time more accessible and affordable for those in aviation. “This is one of the opportunities that we’ve identified to lift the community up,” MSUFCU Foundation executive director Rebecca Surian said. “To get more pilots trained so we can help our airport and our community thrive.
The recipients of this year’s scholarship were Christian Simmons, a senior at St. Johns High School and Danica Bancroft, a senior at Dewitt High School. They are currently enrolled in the Eaton RESA Career Preparation program.
“I never thought it was possible for me to win this scholarship,” Dewitt High School senior Danica Bancroft said. “Keep pushing through and just have your support system.”
The scholarship provides financial support to high school juniors and seniors pursuing careers in aviation. It will help offset the cost of flight lessons, which is the next step towards earning a pilot’s license.
This is the second year that MSUFCU has awarded this scholarship to students in mid-Michigan.
