AVONDALE, Ariz. — A group of Avondale students and their parents received the surprise and opportunity of a lifetime Monday night: Their college tuition will be paid in full.
“I’m so excited and so blessed and so thankful just for this opportunity for him,” Victoria Lenard said.
Lenard will no longer have to worry about how to afford college tuition for her son, Carter.
“Now, nothing can stop him from reaching whatever he wants to reach and do whatever he wants to do,” Lenard said.
Carter was one student in a group of 96 third graders who received college scholarships thanks to the Rosztoczy Foundation and their “College Promise Program.”
“Part of what we are hoping to do is help the schools get better,” Tom Rosztoczy said. “If all these kids can meet or beat the national average on the standardized tests when they’re eighth graders, then we’ll renew the scholarship offer to all of the kids who join this class between now and eighth grade.”
“I’m so happy that I feel like I’m going to cry,” Carter said after receiving his certificate.
The organization has been paying college tuition for students since 2012 to give kids the chance at a higher education without financial barriers.
