Azasha Scott, the daughter of Leon and Tresa Scott and the granddaughter of Leonard and Jannie Barr, is a 2022 graduate of Hemingway High School. She was awarded the Burgess/Smith Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 in memory of Mrs. Sonya Burgess, a science teacher, girls’ basketball coach, volleyball coach, and athletic director at Kingstree Senior High School.
While attending Hemingway High School,  Scott was a member of the Beta Club, girls’ basketball team, and the band. She is currently a member of Mt. Seal United Methodist Church where she has been a member of the choir and played the drums. She is currently a senior at Claflin University majoring in psychology with a concentration in research.
Scott is a proud member of the National Society and the National Honor Society of Leadership and Success. She is also involved in clubs such as, Friends of the Earth, Plus Positive and CU Generation at Claflin University. She has strong leadership skills. She shows love compassion and kindness to everyone she comes in contact with daily. May God continue to grant her knowledge, wisdom and understanding as she continues on her journey.
