The Broken Arrow VFW Post 10887 hosted an awards ceremony for two scholarship winners.
BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — The Broken Arrow VFW Post 10887 hosted an awards ceremony for two youth scholarship winners.
On Thursday, the first place winners of the Voice of Democracy and Patriot Pen scholarships received a check and a certificate to help them with their education.
The winner of the Voice of Democracy scholarship, 11th grader Eleanor Powell, said she was surprised she had won.
“I was pretty surprised. I had to cut out a lot of stuff that I really liked, so I didn’t think it was as good as it had been. So I was kind of surprised when I ended up winning, but I was kind of excited too.”
Eighth grader Sarah Banks was the winner of the Patriot Pen scholarship.
