Wisconsin isn’t done adding players just yet.
The Wisconsin Badgers have had quite a busy offseason, as they had to retool a roster that lost six scholarship seniors and three others to the transfer portal.
As a result, they added four players from the transfer portal: San Diego State guard Nick Boyd, Virginia wing Andrew Rohde, Portland forward Austin Rapp, and Tulsa guard Braeden Carrington.
They’re also in the process of adding Lithuanian big man Aleksas Bieliauskas, who should help out the frontcourt rotation.
Currently, Wisconsin is at 14 players, as they have 13 scholarships and one walk-on for their 2025-26 roster. Here’s the full group:
Seniors
Nick Boyd
Braeden Carrington
Andrew Rohde
Isaac Gard (walk-on)
Juniors
John Blackwell
Nolan Winter
Sophomores
Jack Janicki
Austin Rapp
Riccardo Greppi
Freshmen

With one roster spot left, what will Wisconsin do?
Initially, the expectation was that the Badgers would fill the final spot with a walk-on player, carrying 13 scholarships and two walk-ons for the upcoming season. However, head coach Greg Gard clarified the team’s intentions with their final roster spot at his annual Garding Against Cancer event on Friday.
“We’ll see where that all lands here, depending on what the Judge approves,” Gard said about the impending settlement that would keep roster limits at 15 players. “We are planning it at 15, and if we can expand, we will. We will get that answer from the ruling, but we are at 14 right now.
“We are still actively recruiting another spot, so we will add one more. I don’t know when. But, we are in that process of continuing to add as we move forward. Don’t know yet, [but] likely [a] scholarship [player] is what we are having some conversations about with quite a few people. But, just making sure it is fit, and a lot of things that are in play.”
Wisconsin could revert back to the 13 scholarships and two walk-ons if they convert Jack Janicki back to a walk-on player and compensate the guard with more NIL resources.
But, it seems they will be adding another scholarship player to the fold, getting some more depth, although it is unclear where exactly that depth will be.
