MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) – One local hospital held its annual scholarship luncheon on Tuesday.
Baptist Anderson Regional Medical Center hosted its 36th annual award scholarship luncheon for Meridian Community College nursing students.
Seven students were awarded scholarships named in honor of the six founders of the hospital and the board of directors.
Rebecca Campbell, one of the scholarship recipients, shares why these scholarships are so special.
“So, this scholarship would help me to further my career in nursing and get my RN degree, and I do plan on to go further. But as I’m trying to get this first step, any financial aid helps. Honestly, every little bit goes a long way so I can help others because that’s the ultimate goal through all of this,” said Campbell.
John G. Anderson, the Administrator/CEO of the hospital, explains why it is so important for the hospital to give back to future nurses in this way.
“A great way to end a year if you will, a school year, be able to honor these nurses that have worked so hard, and met extremely stringent criteria to receive these scholarships too. Of course, nursing is the core of every hospital and so to be able to offer scholarships to nurses this way is just very exciting,” said Anderson.
Each scholarship is for $2,500.
Baptist Anderson Regional Medical Center looks forward to continuing the scholarship program in the future.
