Barren County graduate receives $1,000 4-H scholarship – WCLU Radio

A Barren County High School graduate has been chosen as a recipient of the inaugural 4-H scholarship from the Kentucky Community and Technical College System.
Jacob Spence is one of four individuals selected to receive the $1,000 scholarship that will be used to “support their education at a community college during the 2025-2026 academic year,” according to a university press release. Spence will attend Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College to earn an associate degree in arts, the release stated.
“These students represent the very best of 4-H leadership and service, and we are honored to celebrate their achievements through this scholarship as they begin their college journey,” said system president Ryan Quarles. “The KCTCS 4-H Scholarship reflects our shared commitment to helping young Kentuckians build brighter futures for themselves, their families and communities.”
The 4-H scholarships, where were created in 2025, are eligible for those high school seniors that are “active 4-H members,” demonstrate academic merit, maintain at least a 2.0 grade point average and “show unmet financial need[s].”
Other inaugural recipients include Audrina Noman from Monroe County High School, LaRue County High Schooler Mackenzey Rucker, and Hailey Smith from Campbell County High School.
