All Barren County seniors who have applied to participate in some form of education after high school have the opportunity to win a $1,000 scholarship thanks to the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education and GEAR UP Kentucky’s “I’m In! College Acceptance Video Challenge.”
In addition to the scholarship, the video challenge provides seniors the chance to appear in a statewide television commercial. From those videos selected a live, virtual drawing will be held which will select the recipient of the money.
“When we talk about ‘college,’ we’re talking about any post-high school credential or degree program,” said GEAR UP Executive Director Kim Welch. “We want students to share their excitement in getting accepted to a career-ready certification program, trade school, or two-or-four-year college!”
Welch also said that while the challenge seeks to highlight the joy of acceptance and recognize hard work, it also supports the commonwealth’s goal of “having 60% of working-age Kentuckians with a college-level certificate or degree by 2030.”
“Reaching that goal will bring the state closer to the projected national average and make the Commonwealth more competitive in an economy where most new jobs require a postsecondary credential,” Welch said.
The challenge will go until March 31, 2025.
