BAY CITY, MI — The Bay Area Community Foundation will host a free scholarship and financial aid workshop aimed at helping both high school seniors and adult learners pursue post-secondary education.
The “Launch Your Future” event will take place Thursday, Nov. 13, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Delta College Planetarium in downtown Bay City, organizers said.
Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded during the event — one to a high school senior and one to an adult learner. To be eligible, attendees must register in advance and be present at the workshop.
“‘Launch Your Future’ is more than an event; it’s a gateway to opportunity,” Shawna Walraven, president and CEO of the Bay Area Community Foundation, said in a statement. “By connecting students and adult learners with the resources they need to pursue education and training, we’re helping build a stronger, more resilient community for generations to come.”
The event will feature representatives from Michigan higher education institutions including Delta College, Saginaw Valley State University, Northwood University, Davenport University, Central Michigan University and Ferris State University, organizers said. Additional exhibitors include Michigan Works, UA Local 85 and U.S. military branches.
Two workshops will run simultaneously at 5:15 p.m. and again at 6:15 p.m. Delta College will present information about FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form completion, while Anderson Bearden from Complete College Advising will lead a session on graduating debt-free.
Attendees can receive college selection advice, explore scholarship opportunities in on-site computer labs, learn about state aid programs as well as connect with apprenticeships and skilled trades programs.
Registration is required and can be completed through an online form.
