BAY VILLAGE
E-bikes: The Bay Village Police Department recently posted information on Facebook to educate residents on E-bike (electronic bikes) laws and safety. With summer and school over, more E-bikes are on the streets, sidewalks, and trails.
A graphic is posted on the department’s Facebook page. Parents, please take a moment to review the graphic. It’s important that children understand their responsibilities when operating an E-bike, including where they can ride and how to do so safely and legally.
Before purchasing an E-bike, please research the laws and have a conversation with your child about safe and responsible riding.
According to the police department, helmet use is critical. Officers strongly encourage everyone, whether on a traditional bicycle or an E-bike, to always wear a helmet.
New deli coming: Bay Village resident Kathy Owad, owner of Grumpy’s Cafe in the Tremont neighborhood near downtown Cleveland, will be taking over the former Bay Provisions space, 328 Bassett Road. The plans are to open a deli.
The space will be renovated and the new deli is expected to open later in the fall.

“The accomplishments of these recipients, both academically and in other fields, is quite impressive,” said Peter Gierosky, scholarship committee chairperson, in an email. “We are happy to provide this seed money for our leaders of tomorrow.”
Shout-out: Congratulations to Mindy Stroh for recently completing her term as the Bay Village Foundation’s president, having served in the role since 2021.
Stroh started volunteering for the Foundation in 2013 on the Fireworks committee, and she became a trustee in 2015. She was instrumental in fundraising for the new Village Green, refurbishing Play in Bay, and updating 11 guard booths around the city.
Her vision and leadership helped increase the Foundation’s visibility through social media, branding, a new website, Bay Days T-shirts, and donor stewardship.
The Foundation’s new president is Sean O’Reilly.
ROCKY RIVER
Speed cushions: You may have noticed several streets around town have newly installed speed cushions. The city’s Service Department/Streets Division took to social media to address residents’ concerns/questions.
The post reads, “The installation of the cushions in 2025 will take place on East Shoreland (complete), Northview (complete), and Beachcliff (installed next week). This is a pilot program we implemented this year. The cushions will be in place typically, from April through October, and the information and feedback from the pilot will be used to identify potential locations for implementation next year (and years after). Your input will also be considered.
Each street provides slightly different parameters for the evaluation of the effectiveness of the cushions. These locations were selected based upon our previously collected speed data, Average Daily Traffic (ADT), and resident complaints.
The use of Speed Cushions will be one of the tools that the City will be implementing as part of the Neighborhood Traffic Calming Program that has been developed. We are making finishing touches and will be rolling out the program by the end of June.
Tools such as speed cushions are a part of helping make this a safer community, but driving without distractions and demonstrating patience are an invaluable first step.”
