The Beaufort County Community College Foundation (BCCC Foundation) has received a $1 million anonymous endowment out of Naples, Fla. to establish scholarships for second-year nursing students beginning fall 2026. The gift is the largest contribution in the BCCC Foundation’s history and will provide critical support to students pursuing careers in nursing.
The new scholarships will be awarded after federal and state aid, such as Pell Grants and the Next NC Scholarship, has been applied. Awards will help students cover the cost of tuition, fees and textbooks.
“This extraordinary gift will remove barriers for students who have already demonstrated persistence and academic success by completing their first year of the nursing program,” said Serena Sullivan, vice president of institutional advancement. “By investing in these students at a pivotal moment in their education, our donor is helping to strengthen the health care workforce in our region for years to come.”
The nursing program at BCCC is one of the college’s most in-demand offerings, with the most recent graduates achieving a 95% pass rate and securing employment across eastern North Carolina. With the added support of the new scholarships, second-year nursing students will be able to focus more fully on their clinical training and preparation for professional licensure.
The BCCC Foundation currently administers more than 270 scholarships for students across all programs of study. This donation significantly increases the resources available to meet the growing financial needs of nursing students, who face rigorous academic and clinical schedules that make full-time employment difficult.
Dr. David Loope, president of BCCC, expressed gratitude for the transformative gift. “This generous donation affirms the vital role of our nursing graduates in the community and ensures that financial challenges will not prevent dedicated students from completing their education,” he said.
