Bellarmine University is offering a new program, “Bellarmine Direct,” that streamlines the admissions process for high school students in Louisville.
The program allows students in JCPS and private high schools with a GPA of 2.75 and higher to be immediately accepted to Bellarmine and includes a minimum of $18,000 scholarship.
“It’s important that we reduce barriers of entry and that we also make it as affordable as possible for students to attend [Bellarmine],” said Lauren Keeling, the vice president of Admissions at Bellarmine University.
The application is available on Bellarmine’s website, or you can find it here. After a student applies, their high school counselor will be notified to submit their transcript to Bellarmine.
As long as the student meets the requirements, they’ll then be automatically accepted to Bellarmine.
“Then they’ll get a letter, and the letter will state what their scholarship is, which is based upon the wonderful student that they are, their academic preparedness and all of that is taken into consideration,” said Keeling. “Then if they fill out the free application for Federal Student Aid, they’re eligible for even more money. For some of them, it may even be free through our Kentucky Hope scholar program.”
Keeling said the goal of the program is to get more students in Louisville to stay here post-college.
“So we know that students that come to Bellarmine graduate and they are either enrolled in graduate school or they have jobs, 99% of them, within that first six months of graduation,” said Keeling. “So we know our outcomes are really strong and that we can have an even larger impact on the Louisville community.”
Keeling said students with a GPA lower than 2.75 are still encouraged to apply.
