Bellingham Technical College Foundation received $780,000 from an anonymous donor in December, bringing the donor’s gifts to $2.28 million since 2022.
It was the second-largest donation to the college in its history. The donor previously gave a record-breaking $1.2 million in December 2022, which funded scholarships and equipment purchasing for BTC’s welding, diesel and automotive technology programs. In 2023, the donor contributed an additional $300,000 for scholarships, including for students in the college’s nursing program.
From the newest donation, $300,000 will go toward student scholarships and $480,000 will go toward purchasing up-to-date equipment and tools. The BTC Foundation issued more than $1.3 million in scholarships to 500 BTC students this academic year, and the additional funding will allow more students to receive scholarships, according to a news release issued Monday, Jan. 6.
“This latest generous gift will make a big impact on our students, both relieving their financial stress and giving them access to train on equipment that might have otherwise been out of reach without this donation,” BTC Foundation Director Dean Fulton said in the release.
“We are so grateful for this donor’s continued support, and for all of those individuals, businesses, service organizations and foundations that support BTC and our students every year.”
