BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WBNG) — Binghamton University has announced a $22 million gift from an anonymous donor to benefit the school’s athletic scholarship programs.
The gift, one of the largest in University athletics history, will be matched by $11 million by New York State, creating a $33 million endowment to expand scholarships for student-athletes.
The endowment will create 40 new, full scholarships, divided evenly between men’s and women’s sports.
Binghamton University’s athletic programs have enjoyed success in recent years, including multiple conference championships and NCAA tournament appearances.
Recent scholarship changes by the NCAA have increased the competition for student-athletes.
This gift positions the University to build on momentum, strengthening its national profile and inspiring the next generation of student-athletes.
The announcement comes just days before students return for the fall semester.
