OTTAWA, Ontario–()–BioTalent Canada is pleased to announce that applications are now open for its I.D.E.A.L Scholarship™ program, aimed at promoting inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility leadership (I.D.E.A.L) in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) studies across Canada. This unique opportunity seeks to empower individuals from equity-deserving groups to pursue post-secondary STEM education, to further diversify the bio-economy and foster a more inclusive workforce.

The I.D.E.A.L Scholarship underscores BioTalent Canada’s commitment to creating an equitable and diverse bio-economy reflective of Canada’s tapestry of talent. Tailored to support students embarking on their first year of study at an accredited Canadian college or university, the scholarship is specifically geared towards those pursuing STEM disciplines.
“Embarking on this journey with the I.D.E.A.L Scholarship program represents a landmark in fostering inclusion and diversity in Canadian STEM studies,” remarks Rob Henderson, President and CEO of BioTalent Canada. “By supporting equity-deserving groups in STEM, we’re not only investing in individuals but in the sector’s future. Diversity fuels innovation, and this initiative will propel Canada’s health and bioscience sectors.”
The I.D.E.A.L Scholarship aims to empower individuals from equity-deserving groups, fostering diversity within STEM education and the bio-economy. In its inaugural year, focus will be on Indigenous applicants and persons with disabilities. This emphasis stems from BioTalent Canada’s Labour Market Information (LMI) findings, which spotlights these groups as very low in representation in the industry.
This year, BioTalent Canada will award two $10,000 scholarships to students entering their first year of study in a STEM-related accredited program. If awarded, CEGEP students will be eligible for a $5,000 scholarship.
Designed to address disparities and empower individuals from equity-deserving groups, the I.D.E.A.L Scholarship evaluates applicants based on several criteria including career objectives, leadership in IDEA principles, learning and awareness of IDEA principles, and inclusivity through education.
“The I.D.E.A.L Scholarship offers more than just financial support,” continues Henderson. “Through this program, students can have the opportunity to shape the future, and experience empowerment as they break down barriers and contribute to a more inclusive and diverse STEM landscape.”
The addition of the I.D.E.A.L Scholarship to BioTalent Canada’s suite of products, programs and services complements the work already being done through the Student Work Placement Program and other programs, such as the I.D.E.A.L. Bioscience Employer™ Recognition, to ensure equity-deserving groups can gain meaningful employment in Canada’s health and biosciences sector.
