For almost two decades, the Michael Scholz Memorial Charitable Fund has offered scholarships for local children to attend a nature summer camp while honoring Michael Scholz’s memory.
The fund’s mission is to teach young people how to preserve and protect South Florida’s fragile environment and ecosystem.

Michael Scholz was a 30-year-old Key Biscayne resident who died in a car accident in Cuba. The camp at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Biscayne Nature Center celebrates Scholz’s passion for the outdoors.
The Michael Scholz Memorial Charitable Fund, with the Key Biscayne Community Foundation as its fiscal sponsor, offers free summer camp scholarships for children 7-12 from Key Biscayne-based workers – a great opportunity for the children of people who work as domestics in restaurants, shops and hotels.
Scholarships will provide four weeks of free camp at the MSD Biscayne Nature Center, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The camp dates are July 10 to August 2. Children must attend camp for all four weeks.
