Three Catholic school students will be attending diocesan high schools this fall with the help of the Black Catholic Ministry Commission and the Taylor-Woodson Memorial Scholarship.
Each year, the Black Catholic Ministry Commission awards $1,500 scholarships to eighth-grade students who will be attending a Catholic high school in the Diocese of Camden. The scholarship criteria is based on academics, recommendation letters, parish activities and community service. The Taylor-Woodson Memorial Scholarship is named after former members who faithfully supported the program, which for years has provided much needed-financial assistance to worthy students – helping to support them financially and spiritually.
The 2024 scholarship winners are: Myrlandria Hagan of Saint John Paul II Regional School, Stratford, who will be attending Camden Catholic High School, Cherry Hill; and Neven Franks and Godwill Nkemneme, of Saint Mary School, Williamstown, both of whom will be attending Paul IV High School, Haddonfield.
Funding for the scholarship comes from the Diocese of Camden’s Black Catholic Commission’s annual “Afternoon of Jazz, Plus,” as well as monies from the U.S. Bishops’ Black and Indian Mission Office grant. The Black Catholic Ministry Commission hosted the 32nd annual “Afternoon of Jazz, Plus” on April 28 at Auletto Caterers, Deptford.
