The Blair Garden Club has awarded two $1,000 scholarships to Blair County seniors whose career plans and community service reflect the values and beliefs of the organization.
The 2024 recipients are Aaralyn Briscoe from Hollidaysburg Area High School and Maverick Fleck from Tyrone Area High School.
Briscoe has been active in Art club, German club and Girl Scouts and created her own award-winning business, A&E flowers. Her outstanding service and leadership have gained her recognition in the National Honor Society, the Apple Foreign Language Festival and as a Girl Scout Ambassador. She supports her school and community through her volunteer services and outreach to elementary students. She plans to major in agricultural education at Penn State University. She is the daughter of Nicole Briscoe.
Fleck has succeeded in earning numerous FFA certifications and awards, including this year’s state competition in natural resource systems. He is active in golf, tennis and wrestling, as well as working on his family farm. Fleck has shared his public speaking and leadership skills with younger students and earned a place in the National Honor Society. He intends to pursue a career as an agricultural educator and will be attending Penn State University. He is the son of Jennifer and Jim Fleck.
High school seniors planning to work towards careers in agriculture, biology, environmental engineering, floriculture, forestry, conservation, horticulture, landscape architecture, nursery production and management, plant pathology, soil science, turf management, and wildlife science are eligible for this annual scholarship.
