A Henry County student was one of four selected to receive an academic scholarship from a Tennessee ranching association.
Blaire Lamon of Cottage Grove was the recipient of the Joe Houston Memorial Scholarship from the Tennessee Cattlemen’s Association (TCA) and Tennessee CattleWomen’s (TNCW) Association.
Lamon was one of four students who received educational scholarships awarded by both groups for the 2025-26 academic year. All four will be attending the University of Tennessee at Martin.
“I am honored to be a TCA scholarship recipient,” Lamon said. “I am grateful to have been selected for this scholarship to use toward my college education in animal science with a focus in veterinary science.”
Scholarships are awarded on an application basis. Students must include 4-H and FFA involvement, a letter of reference from a teacher or industry leader and an essay. Applicants must also be a member of the Tennessee Cattlemen’s Youth Association, TNCW, or their parent/grandparent must be a member of TCA.
Melinda Hart, TCA director of youth programs and outreach and a Henry County native, said the TCA scholarships represent an investment in the future.
“These impressive young adults have a deep interest in the agricultural industry,” Hart said. “They are the future of the cattle business, and we look forward to seeing where their educational endeavors lead them.”
