Bonanza Casino has awarded more than $4,000 in scholarships to three high school seniors as part of its annual program supporting students from North Valleys High School and one student employed at the casino.
Two $1,500 scholarships were awarded to North Valleys High School students Leilani Okorie and Christina Kuch.
A separate $1,500 scholarship was awarded to Silus Mang, a high school senior at TMCC Magnet High School who works as a restaurant host in Bonanza Casinoās Cactus Creek Prime Steakhouse.
āThe relationship between North Valleys High School and our casino is an example of what can happen, what should happen when you invest time and effort in building a relationship with the community,ā said Ryan Sheltra, general manager of the Bonanza Casino.
Scholarship recipients were selected based on academic achievement, community service, leadership activities and athletic participation.
The funds are payable to an accredited college, skill or training center, or trade school of the recipientās choice.
Okorie plans to attend Truckee Meadows Community College, Kuch will attend the University of Nevada, Reno, and Mang will also attend the University of Nevada, Reno.
Bonanza Casino has partnered with North Valleys High School since the school opened in 2001 and has awarded more than 50 scholarships to its students.
The partnership includes donations, educational seminars, internships, job mentoring, shadowing and work training programs.
