A Bruce Township firefighter and emergency medical technician may find her desire to become a doctor a little more within reach thanks to a recent scholarship award.
Maja Nikolovski, a member of the Michigan Association of Firefighters, was awarded one of two $2,500 Carl Parsell scholarships.
A 2022 graduate of Romeo High School, she earned her EMT certification after graduation after having taken an EMT course during school. She simultaneously earned her firefighter license at Northeast Oakland Fire Academy and was hired as a part time firefighter and EMT in August 2022 and has recently been working full time filling in for an EMT crew member on leave.
Plans are to use the scholarship funds to complete a bachelor’s degree in Clinical Diagnostic Sciences at Oakland University and Nikolovski is applying to medical schools with plans to become an emergency room physician.
Funds for the Carl Parsell scholarship are raised from the annual Carl Parsell Memorial golf outing.
