Owen Nelson plans to attend Ouachita Baptist University this fall to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
The Arkansas School Boards Association (ASBA) Educational Foundation is pleased to announce Owen Nelson, a senior at Bryant High School, as the 2025 District 2 recipient of the ASBA Freshman Scholarship. The ASBA Educational Foundation Freshman Scholarship Program supports the sons, daughters, or legal wards of Arkansas school board members entering two- or four-year colleges.

Owen, the son of Bryant School Board member Tyler Nelson, was awarded the $2,500 scholarship based on his exceptional academic performance, community involvement, leadership experience, and promising future. He plans to attend Ouachita Baptist University this fall to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
A dedicated student and servant leader, Owen has maintained a 4.1 GPA, scored a 31 on the ACT, and completed multiple Advanced Placement courses, including AP Computer Science, AP Biology, and AP Calculus. He also completed four years of engineering classes during high school.
Outside the classroom, Owen is a four-year member of the Bryant Varsity Track Team, active in the National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Geyer Springs Student Ministry. His extensive volunteer work includes medical missions, youth outreach programs, and community service projects like sorting clothes for the Rotary Club’s Kid’s Closet and helping at the Bryant Medical Clinic.
In his application essay, Owen noted, “With the support of this scholarship, I will be better positioned to pursue my goals and make meaningful contributions to my field.”
Owen’s strong academic record, commitment to service, and leadership experience reflect the values at the heart of the ASBA Freshman Scholarship program. His drive and dedication position him for success as he takes the next step in his educational journey.
