ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – Budweiser is donating a portion of proceeds from all Budweiser patriotic packaging sold through Labor Day to Folds of Honor.
Marine Corps Sargeant Rocky Sickman and Patriot the Clydesdale visited First Alert 4 Friday to show off the new commemorative Budweiser can designed in partnership with Folds of Honor. This is a tradition a decade strong.
Sickmann was one of the 52 Americans held hostage in Iran for 444 days from 1979-1981.
“Fifty-two Americans were stripped of their freedom, dignity, and their pride,” Sickmann shared. “Little did I know that I realize, as I was held captive, was eight people lost their lives for me. Coming home, finding out these individuals gave their life for me so I could regain my freedom is something I will never forget. So now I work for Folds of Honor that provides scholarships for children and spouses.”
He said his story is a reminder our freedom is not free in the United States.
“Every morning when I feel I am having a bad day, I think about the worst day when I was put up against a wall with three rifles to the back of my head. But knowing there are men and women serving our country to make sure we live in a free society, we can never forget that,” Sickmann said.
The mission of Folds of Honor has been to provide families of fallen or disabled U.S. service members and families of first responders with scholarships toward educational opportunities. Since 2007, we have awarded 52,000 scholarships across the country, and more than 300 scholarships have been delivered to deserving families in Missouri.
The Budweiser can feature the Folds of Honor flag logo as well as a QR code anyone can scan with a smartphone to donate.
“$13 – you can be a squatter and leader,” Sickmann explained. “There are 13 folds to a flag, which is our logo right there. When you are at the air show tomorrow, at a bar, or at the store picking up beer, make sure it’s Budweiser because when you do, you’ll be supporting folds of honor.”
Together, Anheuser-Busch, its brands, and wholesaler partners have donated $28 million, which has funded over 5,000 scholarships for Folds of Honor recipients.
