PORT JERVIS- The Business & Professional Women’s (BPW) Club of Port Jervis held its annual scholarship dinner meeting June 18th at the Erie Trackside Manor in Port Jervis.
BPW members are committed to serving their community by holding fund raisers and finding ways to be involved in a wide range of community activities. The club’s scholarship program is funded by the group’s annual “Stars of Tomorrow” Tricky Tray, that is held each year in March.
For the past 24 years, BPW has awarded 302 students a total of $412,000. Due to the generosity of club members, local businesses, and the greater Port Jervis community, this year’s “Stars of Tomorrow” Tricky Tray raised $26,000 allowing the club to award thirteen $2,000 scholarships to local Port Jervis and Delaware Valley seniors.
The club’s Adult Continuing Education Scholarship in Memory Of Mabel Trotta was donated by Sandy Hammond.
Each scholarship recipient and a family member were the guests of the BPW at the June 18th meeting. The festivities included honoring the scholarship recipients and awarding each with a $2,000 scholarship.
Each recipient was able to update club members with their college choices and majors.
Vice President Charlene Canale provided the entertainment by hosting the “First Scholarship Trivia contest.” Each table participated, and the winning table’s scholarship recipient was presented with a gift bag of college necessities.
BPW members are busy planning Fall activities including participation in the National Night Out Against Crime on August 5th, the Port Jervis Fall Foliage event on September 28th, and car show at the Huguenot
Firehouse on October 5th.
The club’s next major community fundraiser will be its 3rd Annual Designer Bag & Bling Bingo event to be held on Sunday November 2nd at the Best Western in Westfall, Pennsylvania. Doors open at 11 a.m. with lunch available. Calling calling starts at 1 p.m.
