Southern Trinity High School has earned a Career Choices gold medal in recognition of their implementation of the nationally acclaimed Get Focused…Stay Focused! curriculum, the district announced this week.
The honor, awarded by curriculum publisher Academic Innovations, is reserved for the top schools in the country that are dedicated to promoting student success, college and career readiness, post-secondary completion, and successful skilled entry into the workforce.
“We love recognizing hardworking and talented educators across the country, but the real winners are the students and their communities,” Mindy Bingham, author of the Career Choices series curriculum and CEO of Academic Innovations, said in a preparedstatement. “Thanks to the efforts of these dedicated teachers and administrators, students are set up for long-term success with meaningful 10-year plans to guide them toward achieving their career and life goals.”
Southern Trinity is a shining example of student success, exceeding the state average in graduation rate and SAT readiness.
“Career Choices and Changes has given our students the reality of possibilities for the future and they are able to envision training beyond high school,” said Cindy Dixon, program instructor at Southern Trinity. “This program has brought CTE (Career and Technical Education) to our students that were not available before.”
This is Southern Trinity’s fifth year achieving gold medal status.
The Humboldt County Superior Court is seeking more applicants for the 2024-25 civil grand jury.
The Humboldt Superior Court impanels 19 citizens to act as an independent body of the judicial system each fiscal year (term: July 1-June 30). The court encourages citizens to apply and be considered to serve as alternates if and when vacancies occur during the term of service. The court accepts applications from citizens representing a broad cross-section of the Humboldt County community. The Humboldt County Civil Grand Jury is currently meeting in-person one day a week and via Zoom one day a week (their weekly meeting schedule and time commitment may vary from 10-30 hours).
The primary work of the civil grand jury is to investigate and review citizen complaints concerning the operations of city and county government as well as other tax-supported and nonprofit agencies and districts. Based on these reviews, the grand jury publishes its findings and reports recommending constructive actions to improve the quality and effectiveness of our local government.
