Each student received a $400 scholarship

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- At Monday’s County Commission meeting, County Mayor Jack Lynch and commissioners recognized five Campbell County High School Students for their participation in the litter program’s recycling scholarship. The students are dual enrolled at the Tennessee College of Applied Technology Jacksboro welding program.
The litter scholarship program is organized by Litter Patrol Officer Glennis Monday and Keisha Howard with the Mayor’s Office.
The scholarship awards funds to welding students that take scrap metal and make art out of it. Students had their art on display at the commission meeting.
“We want to give special recognition to the TCAT Welding project winners that we had this year. Through the state of Tennessee, through the education grant we are allowed to give a certain dollar amount to students for participating in a recycling welding project,” Howard said.
Each student received a $400 scholarship.
Students receiving scholarships included Jacob Nelson, Nathan Masengill, William Showalter, Tessa Burress, and Christian Kennedy. Normally Jellico High School participates in the competition as well, but due to its welding lab being under construction, they were unable to participate this year.
‘“As you can see, they have put in a lot of time and a lot of work; their creativity that they have put into it and their time and effort, I really appreciate you all doing that and I appreciate TCAT being that foundation there for them to achieve that growth,” Howard said.
Mayor Lynch thanked TCAT President Debbie Petree and Camilla Gambrel for attending the meeting. Petree and Gambrel said they were so proud of the students and the outstanding job on each welding project.
“It’s all out of recycled materials, and they have done an outstanding job,” Gambrel said.
“TCAT always supports our high school students and their students, and we appreciate them being here tonight,” Lynch said.
Howard told students she was she looked forward to seeing what their “future holds and best of luck on all their future endeavors.”
