Canada has announced the opening of applications for the Canada Graduate Research Scholarship (CGS) 2026, inviting students from Pakistan and around the world to apply.
Successful candidates will receive financial support of CAD 40,000 per year for up to three years. The scholarship is open to both Canadian citizens and international students enrolled in PhD programs at Canadian universities.
The deadline for submitting applications is October 17, 2025. The Canadian government stated that the program is aimed at fostering research, innovation, creativity, and knowledge advancement by supporting outstanding young researchers globally.

Meanwhile, in a separate development, Bangladesh has announced 500 new scholarships for Pakistani students to promote educational cooperation. The announcement was made during a meeting in Lahore between Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and Bangladesh’s Minister for Religious Affairs, Dr. Khalid Hussain. PML-N President Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Bangladesh High Commissioner to Pakistan, H.E. MD Iqbal Hussain Khan, were also present.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz praised Bangladesh’s achievements in the garment industry, microfinance, and women’s empowerment, terming them vital for social progress. She said ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh are rooted in shared history and brotherhood.
