The Lee Health Foundation awarded Barbara’s Friends Scholarships to three high school seniors, all childhood cancer survivors, as they prepare to begin college this fall. The scholarships, endowed in memory of Frank Haskell, founder of Barbara’s Friends – Golisano Children’s Hospital Cancer Fund, support students who have received treatment for cancer or sickle cell disease at the hospital.
This year’s recipients are Cali Trepkowski of Fort Myers, attending Florida State University for nursing; Caliah Russell of Cape Coral, studying hospitality at the University of Central Florida; and Luis Machado of Cape Coral, pursuing computer science at Florida SouthWestern State College.
Now in its fifth year, the full-ride scholarship program recognizes resilience and academic promise. Each award is made possible through donations to Barbara’s Friends.
