CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – On Saturday, friends, family and fans of classic cars gathered to remember Alex Prochaska, for the aptly named Car Show with a Cause.
The event took place Hawkeye Downs in Cedar Rapids.
Prochaska was 17 when he died in a mowing accident in 2019.
Through a combination of entrance fees for the cars, sponsors, a raffle and a bake sale, the money raised is going to the Alex Prochaska Memorial Project, which provides scholarships to people pursuing a a trade degree at Kirkwood Community College.
“(Alex) enjoyed old cars, he enjoyed working with his hands and doing things like woodworking and welding,” said Alex’s mother, Stephanie Prochaska. “We put together already one scholarship, and we’re putting together another one this year to help kids that wanna pursue that same path.“
The third annual show brought in about $3,400.
