Tafalla was a longtime board member of the theater company and was also a founding member of Rainbow LULAC. He died of a sudden heart attack in June 2023.
“Through this scholarship, we honor his passion, leadership, and enduring impact,” the theater company said in its announcement.
This year’s scholar winners are Katherina de Leon, who will be a freshman at American University in Washington D.C.; Shiloh Martínez, who will attend the University of Texas-Dallas and Jorge Monzuris, who will attend the University of Texas-Arlington.
