The Cardenas Markets Foundation, headquartered in Ontario, recently awarded $2,000 scholarships to 59 students from the communities where Cardenas Markets operates. .
The scholarships, totaling $118,000, went to nearly 30 students in the Inland Empire, plus students in Northern California, Las Vegas, Arizona, the Low Desert area and California border cities.
“The fact that we can give back is so important to us,” Adam Salgado, Cardenas Markets chief marketing officer and president of the Cardenas Markets Foundation, said in a news release.
“Hispanics have had financial challenges to remain in school, and we are proud to do what we can to help our future leaders achieve their educational goals,” Salgado said.
Scholarship recipients were selected based on their academic qualifications, financial need and leadership attributes.
Following are recipients from San Bernardino County, Riverside County and eastern Los Angeles County.
• Ontario: Chidimma Adinna, Kate Hendley, Casie Lundquist Emery, Maria Osorio, Sabah Sami.
• Pomona: David Aguirre Maricela, Figueroa Delgado, Daniel Vergara.
• Fontana: Kiyah Browh, Margarita Serna.
• Rialto: Kaelyn Doyle.
• San Bernardino: Zitlaly Cruz-Roman, Darling Santiago.
• Victorville: David Lee.
• Hesperia: Nayzeth Gonzalez.
• Riverside: Norma Gallardo, Rafael Sanchez.
• Corona: Ana Calvillo.
• Moreno Valley: Angela Ogbogu.
• San Jacinto: Ismael Avila.
• Perris: David Gonzalez.
• Murrieta: Jazmine Mendez.
• Perris: Austin Swisher.
• Lake Elsinore: Sharon Velasquez.
• Cathedral City: Juliana Garcia.
• Coachella: Yazmin Franco.
• Indio: Anahy Vargas-Alvarez.
The Cardenas Markets Foundation is a stand-alone, 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation founded in 2005.
Cardenas Markets, headquartered in Ontario, operates 52 stores under the Cardenas Markets banner and seven stores under the Cardenas Ranch Markets banner. It is one of the largest Hispanic grocery chains in the country, according to the news release, with stores in California, Nevada and Arizona.
