Caring Foundation offers healthcare scholarships to help with shortage – KFYR-TV

MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) – A North Dakota foundation is awarding scholarships to help alleviate health care worker shortages.
The Blue Cross Blue Shield Caring Foundation began offering scholarships eight years ago.
Executive Director Amber Blomberg said North Dakota continues to face a healthcare shortage in rural and underserved areas.
She said specialties most in need include primary care, dental and mental health.
According to a study the foundation did in 2024, more than 30% of the state’s population lives in an area with a shortage.
Blomberg explained that they hope offering scholarships helps recruit more people.
“The scholarships are really a direct and impactful way that we can support students pursuing that healthcare career; we’re really trying to reduce those financial barriers,” said Blomberg.
The foundation offers 30 $2,500 scholarships and one $5,000 scholarship.
Applications are due Oct. 1.
