The Carmel Arts Council (CAC) will sponsor a $500 scholarship for one ā€œBest of Showā€ art entry in the high school exhibit at the Carmel International Arts Festival (CIAF), taking place this year on Sept. 27 and 28.
This award will be given in addition to the scholarships from the Carmel International Arts Festival organization. According to CAC President Linda Lutes, ā€œWe’re delighted to add our recognition for a talented high school artist. In fact, providing art scholarships and supplies for K-12 students is part of our mission.ā€
In addition to awarding this $500 scholarship, CAC will arrange for the selected art piece to be displayed at the World’s Smallest Children’s Art Gallery on Main Street.
Maintaining the Children’s Art Gallery has long been the focus of CAC. The gallery, opened in January 1998, officially holds the Guinness World Record as the ā€œWorld’s Smallest Children’s Art Gallery.ā€
ā€œThe primary purpose of the gallery is to assure that visual arts for children and young adults are front and center in our community,ā€ Lutes said.
CAC encourages everyone to stop into the gallery and enjoy collections spotlighting art works from Carmel K-12 schools and items from Carmel’s Sister City in Kawachinagano, Japan.
Each fall, CIAF returns to the Arts & Design District on Range Line Road and Main Street in Carmel, bringing with it a multitude of artists and vendors that appeal to everyone. It truly is an educational experience.
The CIAF committee expects nearly 30,000 people to attend this year. The festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27 and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 28. You can learn more about the festival by visiting CarmelArtsFestival.org.
