“To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow” is a quote by the famous and beautiful Audry Hepburn. The quote reflects nurture, growth, strength, and the hope to reap the pleasures of labor in the future. The Carolina Shores Garden Club shows this belief throughout the year by providing horticulture education, eco-system awareness, community beautification projects, and fundraising efforts towards higher education scholarships.
On May 8, the Carolina Shores Garden Club awarded four graduating West Brunswick High School students with a $1,000 scholarship each to assist with continued education expenses. The recipients were Anna Futch, Joseph Nguyen, Sarah Watkins and Bailey Woodward. In addition to recognizing the scholarship recipients and their guidance counselor, Natalie Woodin, the garden club learned of the student’s future schooling and career interest.
The garden club’s spring luncheon held at Brunswick Golf Club also recognized past, present and future presidents of the club. Those in attendance were Teddy Altreuter, Sally Nolan, Ellen Pacina, Jeanne Paff, Jane Boyle, Joanne Bendy and Mary Conover. Current president, Mary Conover, led the installation of new officers and welcomed Happy Mullen as the 2024-2025 Carolina Shores Club president.
The luncheon concluded by drawing the winning ticket for a beautiful quilt donated by the Carolina Shores Quilt Quild. The quilt material was donated by a former Carolina Shores Master Quilter, Rose O’Donnell. The lucky winner was Jeanne Paff.
The members of the garden club parted ways to tend to gardens, enjoy summer activities, travel near and far yet to return in September for another fun and inspiring year. The Carolina Shores Garden Club gathers on the second Wednesday of each month from September through May. Meetings are held at the Carolina Shores POA, located at 17 Lakeview Court in Carolina Shores.
