NEW BERN, N.C. (WITN) – Fourteen local nursing students were awarded scholarships for their dedication to their studies and the healthcare field.
The CarolinaEast Foundation awarded $63,000 in nursing scholarships to students pursuing degrees in nursing.
The fourteen recipients were recognized at the annual Joseph Hageman Nursing Scholarship Dinner at the Flame Catering and Banquet Center on June 11th.
Brooke Cumbo, Tailynn Turner, and Madelyn Vogan were presented with an $8,000 scholarship that will support them as they pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
 A $3,5000 scholarship was given to four students pursuing an Associate of Applied Science degree in Nursing: Kendall Harris, Shineka Grice, Kelsey Roach, and Carolyn Bright.
Maria Howard and Diann Jones are working towards a Practical Nursing diploma and were awarded a $3,000 scholarship each.
Katie Carson, Alfredo Saucedo Gonzalez, Hannah Lopez, and Nanette Rupke were awarded $3,5000 scholarships for their work pursuing an advanced degree in nursing.
One $5,000 scholarship was given to Stephanie Futh, who is a previous recipient of the Hageman Scholarship and is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.
The scholarships are made possible by the Foundation’s Joseph Hageman Memorial Nursing Scholarship Fund, Robert and Beatrice Honnet Nursing Scholarship Fund, and David Elliott Nursing Scholarship.
Nearly $580,000 in scholarships have been awarded to more than 150 nursing students since 2007.
