Carthage Service League met May 14 at the Sammy Brown Library with 34 present. President Janet Humber called the meeting to order, and Donna Cariker read the minutes. The treasurer’s report was read by Linda Howard, followed by thank you letters read by Lana Overton. A letter of resignation was read from Kayla McKnight.
Betty Casper read the Thrift Shop report. Jo McMillin gave the library report. A sign-up sheet was passed around for volunteers for the Summer Reading Program on May 29. Harriet Huff, building and maintenance, reported that the new AC unit has been installed. Kay Essery announced the two students who received a scholarship to Panola: Eden Andrews and Coleman Bullock. Both are from Beckville.
The nominating committee of Donna Cariker, Sharon Kyle, and Lacy Jones recommended Kristy Essery for vice president and Rhonda Birdsong for recording secretary.
Under old business, the exterior renovation committee updated us that Kortlyn Dunn has the old sign and is repainting it. It will be hung at our back door. $1,000 has been received from a Main Street grant.
After-Hours Shopping on April 18 was well received. The next date will be announced on Facebook.
The next meeting will be June 11 at 6 p.m. at First Baptist Church. This meeting will be a salad supper.
Birthdays celebrated were Barbara Alexander, Darline Graves, Lana Overton and Kay Williamson. Hostesses were Kay Williamson, Cecilia English, Lacy Jones, Janet Humber, Patti Rushing, Deanna Jones, Pam Bannister and Nan Powell. The tables were adorned with cheery yellow wildflowers. Members enjoyed delicious salad, chips, dip and ice cream sundaes.
