California Automotive Wholesalers’ Association (CAWA) is accepting applications for the Selwyn Joffe Scholarship Award Program which supports automotive high school teachers.
“The oftentimes forgotten individuals in educating and training students in preparation for automotive careers is the high school automotive teacher,” a CAWA press release says. “Whether it’s their use of personal funds to keep their programs going or their need for certification to keep their instructor and program status, CAWA wants to assist them in achieving success.”
CAWA says it represents manufacturers, distributors, and retailers that could supply high school automotive teachers with products, tools, and other resources for classroom use. Industry training being conducted by CAWA could also be available to automotive high school teachers.
Teachers interested in applying for a scholarship can complete an application here or fill out a form here. This additionally presents an opportunity for students or employers who have been positively impacted by a teacher in a local program to express thanks, and make them aware of the opportunity to apply.
Candidates must have permanent residence in California, Nevada or Arizona.

Applicants can choose what type of application they are applying for including up to $1,500 to pursue certification or accreditation, such as ASE. Applicants can also ask for in-kind awards such as tools, automotive parts, and lubricants.
The University of the Aftermarket Foundation was “instrumental” in providing the necessary start-up funds to establish the program, the release says.
